This series of paintings blends traditional media in contemporary ways.
The pieces start with a photograph that is downloaded onto a computer, altered, then pigment printed onto archival paper. The print is mounted to a panel and prepared to accept paint. Godfrey then begins drawing (generally with conte crayon) and painting on and around the printed image to create work that blends drawing, painting and photography in ways that are both traditional and unusual. In these complex visual narratives, paint can be perceived as photographic while printed imagery is distorted and recontextualized.
