JEFF JUHLIN “LANDLINES”

The idea behind the “Landlines” series is to explore landscape in the region between the abstract and the familiar. Some of the paint Juhlin makes and uses in these works includes mineral pigments found near his home in the desert near Capitol Reef in southern Utah. These materials reflect a lighter and softer palette, suggesting the exposed horizontal layers of eroded rock strata found in many areas of the southwest desert, juxtaposed with the calm and open spaces located there. This new mixed-media series is more suggestive of the landscape than much of Juhlin’s previous work.
