Artist Statement:
I named this sculpture after a favorite old folk song I listened to as a teen in the 1960s. The song goes through a cycle of flowers, young love, war, death and back to flowers and new hope. Currently, we are experiencing many losses, and all kinds of emotions, including sadness and also hope for better days to come. I see both in this piece.
Artist Statement:
The title is from a line in a hymn often sung at the New Year: “with the patience of hope and the labor of love.”
People have so many different hopes, some as basic as a safe place to sleep tonight. Whatever yours are, hang on to hope, friends.
